Planning and Your Design Consultations

Is my kitchen design consultation complimentary?

Yes. Every kitchen design consultation at Mark Lohan Kitchens is completely complimentary, with no obligation to proceed.

Designing a kitchen is a collaborative process, and we believe you should never feel rushed into making important decisions. That's why we don't place a limit on the number of design consultations or charge for additional appointments. Instead, we take the time to refine every aspect of your kitchen until you're completely happy with the design.

For most projects, your kitchen design is finalised over three consultations. However, every home and every project is different. Where additional refinement is needed, we'll continue working with you to ensure every aspect of your design is fully considered before moving into production.

We're here to guide and advise you every step of the way, ensuring you have the time, clarity and confidence to make informed decisions, enjoy the design process and create a kitchen that's perfectly suited to your home and lifestyle.

When should I book my kitchen design consultation?

The best time to book your kitchen design consultation depends on the stage of your project, but our advice is always the same, the earlier you involve your kitchen designer, the better the outcome.

If you're building a new home or planning an extension, we recommend booking your complimentary consultation once planning permission has been granted. This allows your designer to begin planning your kitchen while your project is still taking shape, ensuring the layout, storage, lighting and services are considered as part of the overall design of your home.

If you're renovating your existing kitchen, there's no need to wait. As soon as you've decided it's time to replace your kitchen, it's the ideal time to begin the design process. Starting early gives you the opportunity to explore different layouts, finishes and design ideas without feeling under pressure to make quick decisions.

To ensure every project receives the time and attention it deserves, we release a select number of complimentary initial design consultations each month. Every consultation takes place in one of our award-winning showrooms, where you'll meet your dedicated designer, discuss your home, lifestyle and budget, and begin creating a kitchen tailored specifically to you.

What should I bring to my kitchen design consultation?

The simple answer is your ideas. You don't need to have every detail decided before your first consultation. Our role is to listen, understand how you live and help shape your ideas into a kitchen that's tailored to your home, your lifestyle and the way you use the space.

If you have architectural plans, we encourage you to bring them along, particularly for new builds and extensions. They provide your designer with an invaluable starting point for understanding your space and developing a layout that works seamlessly within your home. If you're renovating an existing kitchen, room dimensions and photographs of the space are equally valuable, helping your designer understand both the opportunities and any constraints from the outset.

Many customers also arrive with inspiration they've collected over time, whether that's screenshots, Pinterest boards, magazine cuttings or photographs of kitchens they love. These references help your designer understand not only the styles and colours you prefer, but also the details that matter most to you, creating a stronger foundation for the design process.

Just as importantly, we'll spend time talking about how you live. Whether you love entertaining, need space for a busy family, work from home or simply want a kitchen that feels calm and organised, understanding your lifestyle is fundamental to creating a design that works beautifully every day.

If you don't yet have plans or room dimensions, don't let that delay your consultation. Your designer will advise you on exactly what's needed as your project progresses and guide you through each stage of the journey with clarity and confidence.

How many design consultations will I need?

For most projects, your kitchen is finalised over three consultations, although every home and every project is unique.

Your initial consultation typically lasts around 90 minutes and is an opportunity to meet your dedicated designer, discuss your home, lifestyle, budget and vision for your new kitchen. You'll also enjoy a guided tour of our award-winning showrooms, where your designer will help bring your ideas to life by showcasing different kitchen styles, layouts, storage solutions, finishes and design features that may suit your home.

Approximately two to three weeks later, you'll return for your design presentation, which also typically lasts around 90 minutes. During this consultation, your designer will present your kitchen in immersive 3D, together with a fully itemised quotation. You'll work together to refine the design, discuss layouts, storage, materials and any adjustments you'd like to make, ensuring every detail continues to evolve in line with your vision.

Between appointments, your designer will continue developing your kitchen based on your feedback, incorporating any agreed changes.

Your final design sign-off consultation typically lasts between two and three hours, particularly where multiple rooms are involved. This appointment focuses on finalising every detail, from colours, worktops and hardware to appliances, internal storage and all of the finishing touches before your kitchen enters production.

Throughout the process, your designer will guide you every step of the way, ensuring you feel informed, confident and excited as your new kitchen begins to take shape.

What happens after my initial design consultation?

Once your initial design consultation is complete, the excitement really begins.

Armed with everything you've shared, your dedicated designer begins transforming your ideas into a kitchen completely unique to you, your home and the way you live. Every layout, storage solution, material and finish is carefully considered, creating a design that's tailored specifically to your lifestyle, your priorities and your budget.

Approximately two to three weeks later, you'll be welcomed back to our showroom for your design presentation. This is often one of the most exciting moments of the entire journey, as you'll see your new kitchen brought to life in immersive 3D for the very first time. For many of our customers, this is the moment everything becomes real, seeing the ideas shared during their first consultation transformed into a kitchen designed exclusively for their home.

Your design presentation typically lasts around 90 minutes. Together with your designer, you'll walk through your new kitchen in immersive 3D, viewing it from every angle as you refine layouts, explore colours, materials and finishes, and ensure every detail feels just right before moving forward.

Having discussed your budget during your initial consultation, your designer will also present a fully itemised quotation, clearly outlining the investment for your cabinetry, worktops and appliances (where discussed). Where appropriate, your designer may also present alternative specifications, allowing you to compare different options and make informed decisions while staying within your budget.

Your quotation remains valid for 12 weeks from the date of your design presentation, giving you time to carefully consider your options and make the decision that's right for you.

If you decide to proceed with Mark Lohan Kitchens, a €1,000 booking deposit is payable. Once received, your design pack, including your 3D visuals, will be released to you, and you'll be invited back for a follow-up consultation to further refine your kitchen design and finalise the all-important finishes, ensuring every detail is carefully considered before your kitchen moves into production.

How long is my quotation valid for?

Your quotation is valid for three months from the date of your second design consultation, where your designer presents your kitchen design, immersive 3D visuals and detailed quotation, allowing you to see your new kitchen brought to life for the very first time. This gives you the time and space to make the right decision for your home.

During promotional or sale periods, promotional pricing may be subject to a shorter validity period to ensure you can avail of the savings available within that particular promotion. Where this applies, your designer will clearly explain the relevant timeframe as part of your quotation.

We understand that investing in a new kitchen is a significant decision. Whether you're reviewing your design, comparing options, coordinating other elements of your project or simply taking time to consider every detail, we believe you should never feel rushed into making such an important decision.

If you're ready to proceed sooner, there's no need to wait until the end of the three-month period. Once you pay your €1,000 booking deposit, your design drawings are released and your kitchen journey moves into the next stage of the design process, where your dedicated designer will continue refining your kitchen, helping you select all of the finishing touches and preparing everything for your final design consultation.

If more than three months have passed and you're ready to continue your kitchen journey, simply get in touch with your designer. Depending on material pricing and product availability at the time, we'll be happy to discuss the options available to you.

What happens during my final design consultation?

Following your design presentation, it's quite natural to take some time to reflect on your new kitchen, discuss the design with family and consider any refinements you'd like to make. This gives you the opportunity to make considered decisions before your final design consultation.

One of the advantages of having a dedicated designer is that your project doesn't stand still between appointments. As your ideas evolve, your designer will continue working with you, refining layouts, exploring alternative finishes and carefully incorporating any agreed changes, ensuring every detail is considered before your final design consultation.

Your final design consultation typically lasts between two and three hours, particularly where multiple rooms are involved. During this appointment, you'll review your latest design together and finalise every aspect of your kitchen, from colours, worktops and hardware to appliances, internal storage and all of the finer details that make your kitchen uniquely yours.

Following your final design consultation, your designer will incorporate any final decisions into your design before issuing your design drawings for approval.

As your project nears production, we'll arrange a detailed site survey to accurately measure your space and verify every dimension before manufacturing begins. Depending on your project, this may take place either before or after your design drawings have been finalised with your designer. In every case, all confirmed site measurements are incorporated into your production drawings, ensuring every cabinet, panel and component has been precisely engineered and dimensioned for your home before manufacturing begins.

Once your production drawings have been completed, your designer will send them to you for final approval. These detailed manufacturing drawings reflect every confirmed measurement and design decision, giving you the opportunity to review every aspect of your kitchen before manufacturing begins.

Once your approved production drawings have been returned with no further amendments, we'll order your materials and your kitchen will officially move into production. Your manufacturing lead time begins from the date we receive your approved production drawings.

From Design to Installation

What happens once my kitchen moves into production?

Once your approved production drawings have been received, your kitchen officially moves into production and the next stage of your journey begins.

While your dedicated designer remains available throughout your project, your dedicated Customer Support Coordinator becomes your day-to-day point of contact throughout the production, delivery and installation stages of your project. Within a day or two of your approved production drawings being returned, your Customer Support Coordinator will contact you personally to introduce themselves, explain the next stages of your project and provide an estimated production and installation timeline, so you'll always know what to expect over the weeks ahead.

Once all of the materials for your project have been received and we're able to confirm your installation schedule, your Customer Support Coordinator will contact you with a more accurate delivery and fitting date. If anything changes before then, they'll be in touch, ensuring you're always kept informed and know exactly what to expect.

Approximately one week before delivery, we'll contact you to confirm your delivery and installation dates and answer any final questions you may have, helping you prepare for the arrival of your new kitchen. Then, on the morning of delivery, a member of our team will contact you to let you know your kitchen is on its way.

Our support doesn't end once your kitchen has been installed. If any final adjustments or snagging items are identified, your Customer Support Coordinator will arrange these with you, typically within one to two weeks of installation, ensuring every detail is completed to the high standards you expect.

From your first consultation to the day your kitchen is installed and beyond, our commitment is simple: to ensure you always know who to contact, what happens next and that you're supported every step of the way.

What happens on the first day of my kitchen installation?

The first day of your kitchen installation is an exciting milestone, as the months of planning, designing and manufacturing begin to come to life in your home. Our aim is to make the installation process as smooth, organised and stress-free as possible.

Before installation begins, your Customer Support Coordinator will have confirmed your delivery and installation dates, together with the estimated installation timeframe, so you'll know exactly what to expect and can plan accordingly.

To help ensure everything runs smoothly, it's important your home is fully prepared before installation. This includes ensuring your existing kitchen has been removed (where applicable), the room is ready for fitting and all building, plastering, flooring, plumbing and electrical works have been completed in accordance with our installation requirements.

For new builds, your home should also have been heated for the recommended period before final measurement and installation. Full details of our site preparation requirements can be found in our Terms & Conditions.

By the time installation begins, every detail of your kitchen has already been carefully planned and approved, allowing our installation team to focus on bringing your new kitchen to life.

Your kitchen will be delivered to your home prior to the first day of installation, ensuring everything is on site and ready for your assigned installer to begin work as scheduled. Throughout the installation, your installer will carefully fit and assemble your kitchen, ensuring every cabinet, panel and component is installed to the exceptionally high standards we expect.

If you purchased your appliances through Mark Lohan Kitchens, they'll be delivered to site in time for your installer to position them as part of the installation process. If you're supplying your own appliances, they must be on site prior to your scheduled installation and must match the specifications agreed during the design stage.

For safety and certification purposes, we position appliances only. The connection and commissioning of all appliances must be carried out by appropriately qualified professionals.

While every installation is carefully planned, fitting a kitchen takes place within a live home or construction environment. Our installers take great care to protect your property throughout the process, although minor marks to surrounding unfinished surfaces can occasionally occur as part of normal installation. For this reason, we generally recommend completing final decorating and painting once your kitchen has been fitted.

Should you have any questions during your installation, your installer and dedicated Customer Support Coordinator are both on hand to help, ensuring you feel supported every step of the way.

What happens once my kitchen has been installed?

The completion of your kitchen installation is an exciting milestone and the moment your new space really begins to come together.

Completing Your Installation

Before leaving site, your installer will carefully inspect the installation, complete a detailed installation report and remove all installation-related packaging and waste, leaving your home clean and tidy.

Stone Worktops

If you purchased your stone worktops through Mark Lohan Kitchens, this stage marks the beginning of the next phase. Once the cabinetry has been installed, your worktops will be professionally templated to ensure an exact fit. Following templating, our approved stone supplier will manufacture your worktops before returning to install them. This process typically takes between 10 and 14 working days from the completion of your kitchen installation.

Our approved stone supplier will contact you directly to arrange both the templating appointment and the installation of your worktops.

If you've chosen to source your stone worktops independently, your own stone supplier should be contacted to arrange templating and installation once your cabinetry has been fitted.

Snagging & Final Completion

If any snagging items are identified by you following installation, these will be recorded by your Customer Support Team and scheduled for resolution. It's perfectly normal for minor snagging items to be identified as part of the completion process, helping to ensure every detail of your new kitchen meets our high standards.

We ask that you let us know of any visible issues within five working days of installation, allowing our Customer Support Team to review and address them as promptly as possible. Most items can be resolved within a reasonable timeframe; however, where replacement components, specific materials or additional manufacturing are required, some items may take longer to complete. We'll keep you informed where this is the case.

Once we've advised you that all works are complete, if we don't hear from you within five working days, your installation will be considered complete. This does not affect your statutory rights in relation to defects that could not reasonably have been identified at the time of installation.

For full details relating to installation, snagging and completion, please refer to our Terms & Conditions.

While your kitchen may be installed, our commitment to you continues. Your Customer Support Coordinator remains on hand to answer any questions and ensure your kitchen is completed to the exceptionally high standards we expect.

From your first consultation to the installation, we're committed to delivering an experience that's every bit as exceptional as the kitchen itself.

How do you ensure every kitchen meets your quality standards?

Our commitment to quality doesn't end on installation day. At Mark Lohan Kitchens, we're continually investing in the systems and people that help us maintain the exceptionally high standards our customers expect.

To support this, we have a dedicated Independent Quality Assurance Manager, whose role is to carry out independent quality and customer satisfaction reviews across completed projects.

As part of our ongoing quality assurance programme, a selection of recently completed projects is independently chosen for review. These reviews assess both the quality of the finished installation and the overall customer experience, helping to ensure the exceptionally high standards we're known for are consistently maintained.

The findings are reported directly to our management team, allowing us to recognise excellence, identify opportunities for improvement and ensure our quality and service continue to meet the high standards our customers expect.

While not every completed project forms part of this independent review programme, every customer can be assured of our commitment to quality, attention to detail and delivering an exceptional experience from the first consultation through to installation.
