We wanted a kitchen that felt as though it had always belonged in our home, combining timeless classic design with the way we live every day. It's warm, welcoming and has become exactly what we hoped it would be, the place where everyone naturally gathers.
The Design Brief
Building their forever home gave David and Majella the opportunity to create a home centred around family, with a warm, welcoming kitchen where everyone would naturally come together. Whether preparing everyday meals, entertaining friends or spending time together at the island, they wanted a space that felt inviting, effortless and truly lived in.
Timelessness was at the heart of their vision. Drawn to the enduring elegance of classic kitchen design, they wanted balanced proportions, refined detailing and a carefully considered palette that would never feel driven by passing trends. Just as importantly, every element needed to support the way they live, combining beautiful design with thoughtful functionality that would make everyday life feel easy.
Above all, they wanted a kitchen that felt as though it had always belonged. A space filled with warmth, character and timeless appeal, where family and friends would gather for many years to come.

Bringing the Vision to Life
David and Majella's brief called for a classic kitchen that embraced the functionality of modern family living. Through balanced proportions, refined detailing and a carefully layered material palette, that vision was brought to life, creating a kitchen reflecting the timeless elegance of classic design while supporting the practicalities of everyday family life.
Classic character is revealed through carefully judged detailing, from the beautifully proportioned canopy to the Belfast sink, antique bronze hardware and reeded glass top-box cabinetry. Warm oak shelving draws the eye effortlessly from the main kitchen into the open pantry, where Reed Green cabinetry introduces warmth, depth and a subtle contrast. Carrying this distinctive palette into the adjoining utility reinforces the connection between each space.
At the heart of the design, the generously proportioned island became its defining centrepiece. Designed to accommodate cooking, serving and conversation simultaneously, it naturally brings family and friends together while anchoring the surrounding cabinetry. Its generous proportions establish the calm symmetry that defines the kitchen, creating a space that feels effortlessly welcoming and unmistakably the heart of the home.

Defining Design Decisions
Symmetry Creates Calm
Symmetry became the organising principle of the entire design. Full-height cabinetry, carefully balanced elevations and the precise positioning of the island establish a strong architectural framework, allowing proportion rather than decoration to define the space. The result is a kitchen that feels calm, timeless and beautifully composed from every angle.

Designing an Open Pantry
Opening the pantry transformed it from a practical storage space into one of the kitchen's defining design features. Reed Green cabinetry establishes a bold focal point, while tongue-and-groove panelling and natural oak drawers introduce warmth and texture. By concentrating the accent colour within the open pantry, the design gives the Snow White kitchen greater depth, warmth and personality, while establishing a material palette that flows naturally into the adjoining spaces.
The Social Heart of the Home
Designing the island as the social heart of the home shaped the entire kitchen. Its generous proportions were carefully considered to accommodate preparing meals, serving and conversation simultaneously, ensuring the space functions as effortlessly when entertaining as it does during everyday family life. More than simply providing additional workspace, it naturally draws people together and reinforces the kitchen as the heart of the home.

The Beauty of Restraint
Classic kitchens achieve their elegance through careful restraint rather than excessive decoration. The canopy, corbels, Belfast sink, antique bronze hardware and reeded glass top-box cabinetry were selected to introduce timeless character with measured restraint. Every detail contributes to a kitchen that feels authentic, elegant and designed to remain relevant for decades rather than seasons.
Designing Beyond the Kitchen
The strongest interiors are designed as a whole, not as a series of individual rooms. Repeating the Reed Green cabinetry, natural oak accents and antique bronze hardware throughout the pantry and adjoining utility creates a seamless transition between spaces, ensuring each room feels individually purposeful while contributing to one beautifully connected home.
We wanted a timeless kitchen that would feel just as beautiful to live in as it looked on paper. What we have is so much more. Every space feels connected, every detail has a purpose, and together they've created a home that feels warm, welcoming and completely our own.

Life in the Kitchen
The true measure of a successful kitchen isn't how it looks on the day it's is finished, but how it makes you feel every day afterwards. For David and Majella, that's exactly what this kitchen has become. Warm, welcoming and effortlessly practical, it's a space where family naturally gathers, friends instantly feel at home and everyday life unfolds with ease.
The island has become the feature they use more than any other. It's where meals are prepped, conversations begin and family and friends naturally gather whenever people visit. Its generous proportions mean there's always room for everyone, allowing preparing, serving and spending time together to happen simultaneously. It has become the true heart of their home.
The open pantry has exceeded every expectation. What began as a thoughtful design decision has become one of their favourite features, keeping everyday essentials beautifully organised while introducing warmth and personality. Extending the same materials and detailing into the adjoining utility means even the hardest-working spaces feel every bit as considered as the kitchen itself.
Perhaps what David and Majella appreciate most is no single feature defines the space. Instead, it's the way every element works together. The timeless character, warm natural materials and effortless flow between the kitchen, pantry and utility have created a home where family naturally comes together, and that's what they love most.
From our very first meeting, we always felt our designer understood exactly what we wanted to create. Every decision had a purpose, and the finished kitchen has exceeded everything we imagined. Since completing our home, we've welcomed our beautiful daughter into our family, and we can't wait for the day she's sitting beside us at the island, sharing breakfast, helping bake and making memories together. It has become exactly what we always hoped it would be, the heart of our home.
Frequently asked questions
The pantry in David and Majella's home was intentionally designed as a separate destination within the kitchen rather than an extension of the main cabinetry. Set back from the primary run of Snow White cabinets, it naturally establishes its own identity within the space. Concealing it behind matching doors would have diminished that architectural distinction and missed the opportunity to create one of the kitchen's defining design features.
Instead, the open pantry introduces a carefully considered layer of warmth and personality through Reed Green cabinetry, tongue-and-groove panelling and natural oak drawers. Concentrating the feature colour within this space allows the main kitchen to remain calm and timeless, while giving the pantry a distinctive character of its own. The result is a pantry that is not only highly practical but also enriches the overall composition of the kitchen, proving that functional spaces can become some of the most memorable features in a home.
Ethereal Glow Quartz was selected for its ability to combine the timeless beauty of natural marble with the durability and practicality of engineered quartz. Its soft white base is brought to life by elegant flowing veining in warm gold and gentle grey tones, creating a surface that feels rich, refined and full of character without ever overpowering the design. As natural light moves through the room, the veining subtly changes throughout the day, introducing warmth, depth and visual interest from every angle.
For David and Majella's kitchen, Ethereal Glow was the perfect complement to the Snow White cabinetry. The warm gold veining beautifully echoes the antique brass hardware, tap and pendant lighting above the island, while the softer grey tones create a gentle contrast adding depth without distracting from the cabinetry itself. To complete the classic aesthetic, we finished the worktops with a traditional 30mm thickness and an elegant ogee edge profile, introducing another layer of timeless detailing. Together, these carefully considered choices create a timeless kitchen that feels warm, sophisticated and designed to remain beautiful for many years to come.
A truly classic kitchen is defined by its proportions, balance and timeless detailing rather than by any single feature. In this kitchen, every design decision was made to create a sense of harmony, from the full-height cabinetry and carefully balanced elevations to the generous central island that anchors the entire space. These strong foundations allow the kitchen to feel calm, elegant and beautifully composed.
Traditional details were then introduced with restraint to reinforce the classic aesthetic. The Aylesbury door, decorative canopy and corbels, reeded glass top-box cabinetry, Belfast sink and antique brass hardware each contribute to the overall character without competing for attention. Combined with the soft Snow White cabinetry and warm natural materials, the result is a kitchen that feels timeless rather than trend-led. It's this careful balance of proportion, material and detailing that allows a classic kitchen to remain relevant and beautiful for decades to come.
Not every kitchen island needs to accommodate a sink or hob. In this kitchen, we deliberately kept the island clear to maximise its versatility and preserve an uninterrupted expanse of Ethereal Glow Quartz. This gives David and Majella generous space for prepping, baking, serving and entertaining, while allowing family and friends to gather comfortably without competing with the working areas of the kitchen.
The sink and hob were positioned along the L-shaped run, creating a clearly defined cooking and cleaning zone around the perimeter. This keeps the island free as the social and practical centre of the room, while allowing several people to move through the kitchen comfortably at the same time. Visually, the uninterrupted surface also strengthens the island’s presence, allowing it to function as both the main preparation space and the natural gathering point within the home.
Introducing colour doesn't always mean using it throughout an entire kitchen. In this home, we deliberately concentrated Reed Green within the pantry and adjoining utility to give these spaces their own identity while allowing the Snow White cabinetry to remain calm, bright and timeless. By containing the feature colour within one defined area, it becomes more impactful, naturally drawing the eye without overwhelming the room.
This approach also celebrates the pantry as a destination in its own right. Because the pantry is set back from the main kitchen, introducing Reed Green immediately distinguishes it from the primary cabinetry while maintaining a strong visual connection through repeated materials and detailing. Carrying the same colour into the adjoining utility reinforces the relationship between both spaces, creating a home that feels thoughtfully connected while proving that a carefully placed accent colour can often have greater impact than using it throughout an entire kitchen.
Full-height cabinetry does far more than maximise storage. In this kitchen, it was fundamental to achieving the calm symmetry and timeless proportions that define the overall design. Extending the cabinetry to ceiling height creates clean, uninterrupted lines that draw the eye upwards, giving the room a greater sense of height while reinforcing the balanced proportions and timeless elegance of the design.
From a practical perspective, full-height cabinetry also makes better use of the available space, providing valuable storage for less frequently used items while eliminating the dust-collecting gap often found above standard kitchen cabinets. The addition of reeded glass top-box cabinetry introduces another layer of visual interest, breaking up the height of the cabinetry while allowing decorative pieces and glassware to be displayed. Together, these elements create a kitchen that feels refined, beautifully proportioned and designed to stand the test of time.
