About Us

OUR STORY

Over Two Decades of Kitchens Made in Roscommon

Mark Lohan’s passion for cabinetry began at a young age. After training and qualifying as a carpenter, he established Mark Lohan Kitchens in 2002, working from a workshop at his parents’ home outside Roscommon Town.

From the outset, Mark worked personally with each client, taking their kitchen from the first conversation and initial design through to manufacturing the cabinetry and completing the installation himself. Being personally involved at each stage shaped the principles on which the business was built: listening carefully, getting the design right, delivering lasting quality and ensuring the client’s experience is every bit as exceptional as the finished kitchen.

More than two decades later, Mark has built a company and a team that continue to uphold those principles throughout each client’s journey. Perhaps the strongest reflection of that legacy is the families who return to MLK, sometimes the children and grandchildren of Mark’s earliest clients, as a new generation begins creating homes of their own.

Where Our Story Began

Mark Lohan’s passion for cabinetry began at a young age. He went on to train and qualify as a carpenter, developing the knowledge, skill and hands-on experience that would later form the foundations of his own business. Even while completing his apprenticeship, Mark was already looking ahead, saving to invest in the machinery he would need to establish a business of his own.

In 2002, that ambition became Mark Lohan Fitted Furniture, beginning in a workshop at his parents’ home just outside Roscommon Town.

In the early years, Mark did everything himself. He met with clients, measured each project, designed the kitchens, manufactured the cabinetry and fitted the finished kitchens in their homes. Working across every stage gave Mark a first-hand understanding of the complete kitchen journey: how important it was to listen to the client, get the design right from the outset, deliver lasting quality and ensure the experience matched the standard of the finished kitchen.

Those early years shaped not only the business Mark was building, but his belief in how a kitchen company should work. More than two decades later, that experience continues to influence how he leads Mark Lohan Kitchens and the standards he expects at every stage of a client’s journey with us.

Today, some of the kitchens we design are for the children and grandchildren of Mark’s earliest clients, families who have returned to Mark Lohan Kitchens as a new generation begins creating homes of their own.

Growing Mark Lohan Kitchens

As more homeowners across Ireland chose MLK, the business grew to meet that demand, investing in talented people, specialist skills, inspiring showrooms, advanced technology and greater manufacturing capacity while preserving the individual approach at the heart of each kitchen.

Central to that growth has been the development of an experienced team across design, manufacturing, installation and aftercare. Many have built long-standing careers with MLK, bringing years of knowledge and expertise to each kitchen we create.

A defining milestone came in 2019 with the opening of a purpose-built, 15,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Roscommon. Today, MLK operates two 15,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facilities in the county, combining advanced production technology with skilled workmanship to serve clients nationwide.

For each client, this scale and expertise remain deeply personal. Working one-to-one with an experienced designer allows them to create a kitchen around their home, how they live, their personal style, priorities and budget. That individual design is then technically developed, manufactured in Roscommon and installed by MLK, giving the client one experienced team, direct accountability and carefully managed quality throughout design, manufacturing, installation and aftercare.

Take a closer look at MLK today, from our showrooms and design teams to manufacturing, installation and the people behind each kitchen.

Investing in the Next Generation

The future of our industry depends on developing skilled, experienced people and creating opportunities for the next generation to build their careers within it. Mark Lohan Kitchens has a long-standing relationship with Letterfrack, now ATU Connemara, with graduates working across our design, manufacturing and management teams.

Today, we continue to work closely with ATU Connemara through a dedicated student placement programme, giving students the opportunity to gain practical industry experience and develop their skills alongside experienced professionals.

Through apprenticeships, school work placements and visits to our manufacturing facilities, we also give young people the opportunity to experience the industry first-hand and discover careers across design, manufacturing and skilled trades. By investing our time, knowledge and experience, we hope to play our part in developing the skills and talent our industry needs for the future.
